LINA

The Natural Language Processing team (NLP) of the Laboratoire Informatique de Nantes Atlantique (LINA UMR CNRS 6241) consists of 10 half-time research staff, 9 PhD students and 2 post-doctoral fellowships. The NLP team is interested in fundamental and applied research in relation with lexicon, syntax and semantics of written texts, with a special focus on multilingualism and multimedia. It develops mixed analysis methods and multilingual analysis tools inside the Unstructured Information Management Architecture framework (UIMA).

Syllabs

SYLLABS is a private research laboratory specialising in information processing. Its business is built around three complementary business areas: Research, Innovative Developments and Consulting.
Founded by a researcher, Applied Research is naturally at the heart of the company. Its primary field is Natural Language Processing (NLP) for information management and processing, as well as for Electronic Document Management (EDM). SYLLABS develops analytical methods and innovative tools for the processing of language-driven data (both written and spoken) by combining both statistical methods and analytical rules specified by linguists.
SYLLABS is recognised by the French Government as a Young Innovative Company and benefits from the Research Tax Credit, a tax incentive from the Government to stimulate R&D.
As a R&D company, SYLLABS participates and sets up research consortiums, particularly for calls for tenders from the French National Research Agency (ANR), the Regional IT Business Cluster Cap Digital (Île-de-France) and the European initiatives (EUREKA, FP7). At present, Syllabs participates in different research projects, such as  GV-Lex, Blogoscopie and Piithie (in cooperation with the LINA laboratory from Nantes), RPM2, and DematFactory.

Lingua et Machina

Lingua et Machina (L&M) is a spécialist of Corporate multilingual text management. Lingua et Machina has produced a corporate memory. This memory is mainly stocked with translations that have been produced over time. As a result, its contents can be consulted at several different levels, acting as a dictionary of the company’s own words, expressions, and sentences. Today, Lingua et Machina offers two product families, Similis and Libellex, which both process French, English (British or American), German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch.

LIG

LIG’s research is organised into four major scientific themes : Infrastructure (networks, computing and data), Software (foundations and design models), Interaction (perception, action and dialog), Knowledge (learning, agent models and web-ontologies). Along these themes LIG wants to rise to the broad challenges of six leading Application Domains : embedded systems, security, intelligent building, open enterprise, advanced computing for science and technology, and informatics for education, culture and leisure. Within the LIG, the MRIM team studies models and algorithms for efficient access to information contained in large, multimedia, multilingual and semi-structured data collections. In particular, we are exploring, among other research topics, machine learning models for information access (categorisation, clustering, retrieval), in both monolingual and multilingual contexts.

VALORIA

The computer science research lab. VALORIA/UBS is developing research in multimedia information retrieval (text, sequence, time series, semi-structured data, XML). Algorithmic solutions involve numerical models (statistics or probabilistic components, algebraic calculus, ...) or symbolic models (rule based and logical components or resources such as ontology …). Developing distributed multi-agent architectures dedicated to web crawling is one of the main applicative objective of the APRIM research team.
